Educator Workshop: Kerry James Marshall

Join SFMOMA and KQED to explore contemporary artist, Kerry James Marshall's compelling and colorful work. Commissioned for SFMOMA’s Haas Atrium, Marshall created two murals that investigate history and its representation in works of art. In this workshop, teachers will discover new ways to incorporate Marshall’s ideas and concepts into their curricula. Educators from SFMOMA and KQED-Spark will lead this professional development session, which will include gallery discussion and a hands-on art activity led by a published graphic novelist. Participants will receive a video about Kerry James Marshall's installation process produced by KQED-Spark, along with substantive curricular materials designed by SFMOMA and KQED.
This workshop is open to educators of all grade levels. Please do not register unless you are sure you can attend. Only one ticket per registrant may be reserved. Seats are limited to 40.
Participants will receive curriculum guides created by SFMOMA and KQED, and DVDs for classroom use produced by Art:21 and KQED Spark. Refreshments will be served. For questions, send an email to ArtsEd@KQED.org.

SFMOMA + KQED
SFMOMA welcomes educators to explore modern and contemporary art and to use the museum's collections and exhibitions as a foundation for teaching and learning. SFMOMA's Education Department offers a variety of programs and resources for use at the museum or in the classroom.
KQED Education Network uses the power of KQED media to inspire learning throughout Northern California. The resources of KQED are brought directly into the community through workshops, online content, unique programs and special events. Education Network serves educators, families with young children, child-care professionals, K-12 and adult learners, and the general community, with a particular emphasis on reaching underserved communities.
